OKIE CLAY 2000 small Traditional size (just under 8 inches at ear tips) chestnut spotted blanket Appaloosa colt sculpted by Carol Williams $220 glazed $150 bisque Red Okie Clay mailing letter First production firing pieces were marked with a star on the belly. Early pieces are a very light chestnut. Later, Joan tried to add a bit more red shading, but this proved inconsistent, as red is one of the colors than can easily burn out in firing. Approximately half way through the production run around Christmas 2001, Joan changed the color to a slightly browner shade of chestnut, with darker shading on face, knees and hocks and pangare around the muzzle. The first six pieces were marked with a small "x" on the belly and are known as the Christmas variation, however, subsequent pieces will also be this coloring as it is more stable in the kiln. The piece pictured is a test. |
