1. How do I know if the pottery got my order?
  • Call and ask! (760) 431-1014.
  • Use a return receipt option to send in your order.
  • If your check cleared, the pottery probably DID get your order.
  • Include a self-addressed and stamped postcard with your order, asking Joan to mail it back to you.
  • These days, now that online ordering is in effect, you'll more likely receive an automated email to let you know your email was received.

2. I got my mailing, I sent my order in fast, when will I receive my model(s)?
  • Joan can only make so many ceramic horse figurines a week. For minis, the average production run time is 6-9 months. For large models, it is more like 2 years. Be patient, the wait can be lengthy one!
  • Still curious? Call to get an idea of when your order will ship.

3. I think I missed an issue of Pour Horse Patter!
  • As a current Pour Horse Pottery customer in good standing you should receive "Pour Horse Patter" whenever it comes out. There isn't always room in every mailing to include it.
  • Mailing news is posted to the PourHorseFactory email list and to this site.
  • If you lost your issue, check with the pottery to see if extras are available (for LSASE).

4. I think I missed a mailing!
  • Sometimes the post office is just a little slow! If it has been two weeks after the mailing went out and you still don't have it, contact the pottery for a replacement.
  • The other common reason for missing a mailing is MOVING and not notifying the pottery. This is a dangerous practice! If Joan receives a mailing back marked address unknown, you could be dropped from the customer list! Remember, Joan can't afford to hire a detective to track you down!

7. Is it a Pour Horse piece?
  • While many early pins and wares were not marked, since the introduction of the ceramic horses, all horses have been marked with the possible exception of a very few early tests. The markings have varied, some may have the initials "PH" or "PHP", some may have it written out "Pour Horse". The marking is usually found on the belly of the horse. Current pins are marked "PHP". Most pieces now are also dated. If you have an unmarked piece you believe may be an early Pour Horse Pottery piece, you can usually verify this by calling the pottery.
  • Pieces marked Lucas Studio or LucasFrancis Studio are those produced as a separate venture by one of the pottery artists, Kristina Francis, and should not be confused with Pour Horse Pottery pieces.

8. How do I tell a custom from a factory production piece or test?
  • With very few exceptions (early pieces), they are marked as "custom" and signed by the artist, Joan Berkwitz or in some cases, Kristina Lucas. (Kristina usually signed with "Lucas Studio".) This marking may be found on the belly of the horse. Custom pieces are NOT considered to be either tests or factory run pieces. They should be exhibited and judged only in the custom division of any show. It is the responsibility of the owner to place them in the proper division.
  • Other artists have also done custom glaze pieces, at the pottery and on their own. These are usually signed with the artist's name or studio name and again, are not considered factory production finish pieces and should be exhibited only as custom.
  • Tests have always been marked "Test" on the belly, with very few exceptions. The number of tests in public hands is limited as they are not generally sold by the pottery.
