| I
was introduced to Pour Horse Pottery by the most
comprehensive model horse site in the world,
Janet Piercy's Model Horse Gallery. From the
first, what the pictures on the web had indicated
was confirmed by me to be true: these ceramic
pieces rival the Hagen-Renakers I collected in my
childhood for sculptural detail, crispness of
finish, and warmth of color. My interest was furthered,
informed and encouraged by the longtime friend of
the Pottery, Cynthia Gardner, and my good friends
Barbara Ness and Thomas Bainbridge, who are both
supportive of and knowledgeable about the
Pottery's endeavors. Cynthia is the webmistress
of the official Pour Horse website, and when my love of
webauthoring finally intersected with my Pour
Horse addiction, she graciously consented to the
creation of this site. Elizabeth Holm kindly
allowed me to use the sizeable amount of
information she has amassed about variations.
I naturally also
requested the permission of Joan Berkwitz, the
lady who really is the Pottery, who gave her
sanction without hesitation, sending me almost
ninety photographs to publish. Having recently
made her acquaintance, I am pleased to report
that she is everything you might suspect her to
be: A proud craftsman, talented artist, tender
teacher, and great lover of all things china.
Other devoted
collectors of Pour Horse Pottery generously made
contributions of images to this site. Those
people include: Laura Pervier, Elizabeth Strauss,
Elizabeth Bouras, Elizabeth Holm, Thomas
Bainbridge, Barbara Ness, Michelle Locke, Tammy
Ferin, Caren Cullen, Angie Diekman, Ruth Lenz,
Trep Parish, Karen Gerhardt, Lesli Kathman,
Michelle Masters, Cynthia Gardner, Kristina
Lucas-Francis, Amy Peck, Marie Ferguson, Chris
Nandell, and Beth Warren. Thank you all!
Please do not
make these folks sorry to have contributed by
writing them to inquire as to whether they have
anything for sale. The majority of items on this
site are part of private collections and will
never be sold; the remainder will surely go to
eBay if their owners are inclined. Furthermore,
all of the images at this site are copyrighted
and may not be used without permission. Thank you
for your courtesy and I hope you enjoy the site!
